The UA&P School of Politics and Governance (SPG), in collaboration with the Philippine Council for Foreign Relations (PCFR) and the SPG student organization POLIS, invites everyone to a lecture on "Philippines and Path Dependence: Explaining the Present Through the Past" to be held on April 8 (Wednesday) from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm at the PLDT Hall.
The lecture, part of the Politics, Economics, and Society Series of SPG, will feature Mr. Calixto Chikiamco, president of the public advocacy organization Foundation for Economic Freedom (FEF).
Path dependence is an analytical framework used in economics and political economy to explain how past decisions shape present outcomes. Once policies, institutions, and incentives are established, they tend to reinforce themselves, making change gradual and often difficult even as circumstances evolve.
The Path Dependence Caravan, an education-focused initiative of the Foundation for Economic Freedom (FEF), uses this framework to help students and the public understand why the Philippine economy is the way it is today, and how earlier choices continue to influence current policy options.

The Center for Student Affairs, through the Office of Guidance and Counseling (OGC), successfully conducted a mental health talk for parents titled “Holding Space: Keeping Conversations Open with Your Teens” on March 7, 2026, at the Dizon Auditorium.
The event brought together parents and guardians of UA&P students in a meaningful learning session and open forum focused on understanding today’s Generation Z adolescents and strengthening parent-teen communication. The talk aimed to equip parents with practical strategies to navigate difficult conversations and foster more open, respectful, and supportive relationships with their children.
The session was led by Dr. Jerry J. Jurisprudencia, a clinical psychologist and guidance counselor from Miriam College, and Ms. Nikki Jean V. Jurisprudencia, a women & children rights advocate and researcher at NoBox Philippines. They shared their expertise in psychology, education, and family dynamics. Through their discussion, they highlighted the evolving digital landscape, the unique communication styles of today’s youth, and the importance of creating safe and supportive spaces for dialogue at home.
Participants engaged actively during the open forum, where parents raised questions and shared experiences related to communication challenges and parenting in the modern context. The exchange of insights further enriched the session, making it both informative and relatable.
The CSA-OGC continues to support the holistic well-being of students by engaging not only learners but also their families and support systems through relevant and timely programs.
