The Department of Mathematics of the UA&P School of Sciences and Engineering (SSE), in partnership with DepEd Palawan and with financial support from the Assisi Development Foundation Inc. (ADFI) and the Provincial Government of Palawan, conducted the Math Summer Institute (MSI) 2024 last September 26 to 28 in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
This year's MSI, entitled "Division Training on Upskilling and Reskilling of Junior and Senior High School Teachers' Knowledge and Skills on Mathematical Content and Pedagogy," covered topics in General Mathematics, Precalculus, Statistics and Probability, and Calculus, which were taught by SSE Dean Dr. Noemi Barcial-Torre together with SSE teachers Dr. Eva Rodriguez, Dr. Maria Veronica Quilinguin, Ms. Kimberly May Vallesteros, and Mr. Rey Vincenzo Cruz.
With the help of Ms. Astrid Agbanlog, the Education Program Supervisor for Math of the Schools Division Office of DepEd Palawan, 51 junior and senior high school math teachers from different municipalities of Palawan attended the three-day training. The Math Department, with the goal of bringing closer the training to teachers who have less access to it, is working to continue this partnership with DepEd Palawan and ADFI for greater project impact.
The MSI is an annual extension project of the Department of Mathematics that primarily aims to address the needs of public school math teachers, in terms of their knowledge and skills, in effectively teaching their subjects.
