Training DepEd Bulacan’s teachers: UA&P profs define supportive learning environment
Mr. Cyrus Paolo Buenafe from the Department of Information Science and Technology (IST) and Ms. Zyra Lentija from the Department of Philosophy delivered their lectures at the Induction Program for Beginning Teachers (IPBT) conducted by the Department of Education - Schools Division of Bulacan (DepEd Bulacan) on April 5, 2024.
Over 1,000 beginning and master teachers attended the hybrid conference held in Plaridel, Bulacan, which carried the theme “Fostering a Supportive Learning Environment.” DepEd Bulacan is one of the 10 extension program partners of UA&P - IST.
Ms. Lentija discussed the key characteristics of a supportive learning environment, which include positive and respectful relationships, a sense of belonging for all students, a safe space for learning and taking risks, high expectations for student success, and clear routines and procedures.
Mr. Buenafe, on the other hand, elaborated on the management theory of psychological safety and growth mindset, and showcased examples of positive and inclusive classroom practices, such as the classroom constitution and icebreakers.
The last two lectures of the series were given by Xepto Education, an industry partner of UA&P through IST.
