UA&P Arts Month 2022 celebration

OSD-Kultura, the arts and culture subprogram of the Center for Student Affairs - Office of Student Development (OSD), in collaboration with the University Student Government (USG), will be holding a university-wide celebration of the National Arts Month this February entitled “BREAKING BOUNDARIES: Reconnecting Communities through Art.”

Open to UA&P students, alumni, and employees only, this year’s Arts Month activities are as follows:

ART TALK: ART AS REMEDY 
February 23 (Wednesday)
9:00 am to 12:00 noon

 

The plenary talk aims to continue advocating the transformative values of the arts to an individual and society by raising awareness about mental health and the benefits of art in fostering mindfulness.

 

The keynote speakers will be UA&P alumnus and multi-awarded artist Mr. Christian Vallez, UA&P guidance counselor Mr. Resty John C. Dimal, and life & career coach and certified cognitive behavior therapist Mrs. Kai Soriano-Sta. Cruz.

ART WORKSHOP SERIES: THE CREATIVE MUSING
A. Filmmaking: The Power of the Montage
 (6 sessions)
Facilitators: Christian Vallez and Greg Rodriguez III
February 22, 24 and March 1, 3, 8, and 10
8:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Slots: 15 participants only

 

An introductory course on the fundamentals of motion picture. It will primarily focus on montage as an editing approach for visual storytelling. The facilitators will discuss the basic principles of photography and filmmaking compositions and techniques and will delve deeper into the process of putting together photos, videos, and audio to create meaning and convey a story.

 

B. Drawing and Painting: New Way of Seeing (2 sessions)
Facilitator: Pia Soriano
February 23 and March 2
3:00 pm to 4:30 pm
Slots: 20 participants only

 

An introductory course on the fundamental skills and techniques in drawing and painting. Participants will re-familiarize themselves with the principles of Art and the different elements that comprise it, namely line, shape, form, value, color, space, and texture, through practical exercises on still-life illustrations and critique sessions with the facilitator.
