Illuminating the Unknown: UA&P's data science bootcamp sparks student curiosity
The Data Science Circle (DSC), in collaboration with the Mathematics Department of the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P), proudly hosted "Data Science Bootcamp: Illuminating the Unknown" last March 29, 2025, at the PLDT Hall.
Participants, organizers, and judges of the data science bootcamp.
The bootcamp was specially crafted to spark curiosity and build the foundational skills of senior high school students in the fast-evolving field of data science. The whole-day event saw students engaged in hands-on learning experiences, beginning with two focused lectures on linear regression and its application through Python programming, facilitated by one of UA&P's faculty members, Ms. Millicent Singson.
In addition to the lectures, the bootcamp featured three dynamic workshops aimed at enhancing students' data visualization, modeling, and presentation skills. These sessions provided a platform for participants to apply what they learned in real time, developing both their technical abilities and their capacity to communicate insights from data effectively.
The bootcamp culminated in a friendly competition where participants showcased their newfound skills. The following teams emerged as winners:
Grand Champion - Chiang Kai Shek College Team A
1st Runner-Up - Assumption College of San Lorenzo
2nd Runner-Up - Chiang Kai Shek College Team B
Among the schools represented in the bootcamp were CCF Life Academy, Mapua University - Makati, Victory Christian International School, UPIS, UA&P, Pasig City Science High School, Makati Science High School, Assumption, Lorenzo Ruiz, Chiang Kai Shek College, Montessori de Sagrada Familia, Ateneo De Naga, St. Bridget School QC, and Saint Pedro Poveda.
