Arts Department hosts lecture concert on Filipino music genres
The Arts Department hosted a lecture concert entitled "An Exploration of Various Filipino Music Genres" last September 11, featuring two esteemed performers: Mr. Greg de Leon (Baritone) and Dr. Montet Acoymo (Tenor). Held at the Dizon Auditorium, the concert was a celebration of the rich and diverse musical heritage of the Philippines.
Dr. Acoymo introduced select musical pieces and songs featured in his book Art Songs for a New Millenium and offered background information on their cultural significance. The audience was then treated to a medley of Filipino folk songs from various regions.
Mr. de Leon, on the other hand, rendered soulful renditions of "Bituing Marikit," "Kalesa," and "Gaano Ko Ikaw Kamahal" and explained the significance of each song to him as a performer.
The concert concluded with a powerful and moving performance of "Mi Ultimo Adios" by Dr. Acoymo.
The lecture concert is part of the Arts Department’s ongoing initiative to promote arts, culture, and, most importantly, the country’s musical heritage.
