8-time Palanca awardee conferred Associate Professor rank

 

On September 27, College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) faculty member Dr. Joachim Emilio Antonio received the Certificate of Associate Professorship from UA&P President Dr. Winston Conrad Padojinog in a conferment ceremony held at the ALB Dining Halls.

Dr. Antonio teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Literature and the Humanities Program of CAS, where he also served as the MA Humanities Program Director from January 2018 to July 2021. He is an award-winning playwright and published children's author. He won eight Don Carlos Palanca Awards for his one-act plays in English, short stories for children in Filipino, and full-length plays in English.

The conferment ceremony was attended by Dr. Antonio's family and students, CAS faculty members and staff, members of the ManCom, and UA&P co-founder Dr. Bernardo Villegas, who regaled the audience with a rendition of a kundiman. Cocktails followed at Study Hall A.

SLG faculty brief Singapore foreign service cohort on PH politics

 

UA&P School of Social Sciences, Law, and Governance faculty Dr. Robin Michael Garcia and Dr. Jemy Gatdula were at the Singapore Embassy in Manila last September 28 to brief the new cohort completing the Foreign Service Basic Training Programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore.

They delivered presentations and engaged in a Q&A about Philippine governance structure, Philippine electoral politics, and foreign policy. They were joined by Dr. Ronald U. Mendoza, who discussed dynastic politics in the Philippines.

Each cohort will travel to other countries for a brief but intensive visit in order to gain an understanding of sociopolitical and economic realities outside of their home country. The new Singaporean Ambassador to the Philippines Constance See was in attendance.

Online lecture on "Malaysia's Political Economy of Development"

 

The School of Social Sciences, Law, and Governance (SLG) invites everyone to an online lecture on "Malaysia's Political Economy of Development" by Dr. Firdausi Suffian, Senior Lecturer at Universiti Teknologi MARA in Sabah, Malaysia, on October 3 (Tuesday) from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the PLDT Hall.
