Dr. George Manzano, UA&P Associate Professor of the School of Economics, will deliver a lecture entitled  ”The Free Rider Problem in APEC’s Trade in Environmental Goods Initiative.”

SMN faculty members attend HBP-led case teaching workshop

 

School of Management faculty members Dr. Ruel Maningas, Ms. Jodie Claire Ngo, Ms. Lota Kristine San Juan-Nable, Mr. Justin Reginald Nery, and Mr. Nogin Bunda participated in the "Teaching with Cases Workshop" held on July 22-23, 2024, at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati City hosted by De la Salle University in partnership with Harvard Business Publishing (HBP)-Education.

Dr. Peter Bryant of HBP and IE Business School provided the participants with various tools and techniques in teaching with cases that include: (a) establishing and reshaping the learning contract, (b) designing the case discussion plan, (c) questioning, listening, and responding, (d) practicing the skills; (e) teaching cases hybrid and online; and (f) peer feedback exercise. Two additional topics presented were navigating/searching the HBP and teaching cases with artificial intelligence.

Announcement from the SSE OpCom

 

The Operations Committee of the School of Sciences and Engineering (SSE OpCom) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Varsolo Sunio as the Program Director of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) Program and of Engr. Michael delos Santos as the acting Program Director of the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) Program effective immediately.

Dr. Varsolo Sunio brings over a decade of research experience from various institutions, including the Department of Transportation and the Department of Science and Technology, apart from being a part-time faculty member at UA&P since January 2019. He recently concluded his stint as a Fulbright Scholar in the United States before his conversion to a full-time faculty position at SSE. He succeeds Dr. Edwin Olmos as the program director of BSIE.
 
Engr. Michael delos Santos joined UA&P as a full-time instructor in July 2024. He has worked in the civil engineering industry, particularly in transport engineering, and has years of experience as an instructor. He recently acquired his master's degree in civil engineering.
 
We extend our gratitude to Dr. Olmos for his dedicated service as the head of the BSIE program. We wish Dr. Sunio and Engr. delos Santos success in their new roles and enjoin everyone to support them as they advance their respective programs in alignment with the University's mission and vision.

Arts Department faculty completes Getty Conservation Institute Historic Urban Landscape Course with Distinction

 

Dr. Laya Boquiren Gonzales, current Chair of the Arts Department, was selected among mid-career urban planners, architects, and associated urban conservation professionals in ASEAN for a Historic Urban Landscape Course under the Getty Conservation Institute and on a partial scholarship. 

Titled "Old Cities, New Challenges," the Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) approach was used as a key methodology for sustainable urban conservation. Included were modules on cultural mapping, assessment of tangible and intangible heritage values, statements of significance, and heritage impact assessments, among a few. 

The program was held online from April to June 2024 and has a forthcoming onsite component. Dr. Gonzales completed the course with distinction.
