EM alumnus and Northstar CEO Anthony Ng visits UA&P

Mr. Anthony Ng, founder, chairman, and CEO of NorthStar Meat Merchants Inc., visited UA&P last July 11, 2023. Mr. Ng is a BS Entrepreneurial Management graduate (batch 2001) of UA&P. He received the Alumni Award for Innovation and Entrepreneurship during the HELM Awards last December 2022 organized by the UA&P School of Management to recognize alumni achievers.

In 1999, NorthStar started out as Mr. Ng’s undergraduate New Business Venture under the Entrepreneurial Management (EM) Program of UA&P. In 2021, NorthStar had a total of 260 stores nationwide and was able to rake in P9.3 billion pesos based on their 2021 sales. NorthStar has trained and developed more than 2,000 experienced butchers nationwide by utilizing its meat cutting facility and its meat shops as actual training grounds for its butchers. Currently, its stores and plants nationwide are manned by a total of 2,240 highly skilled butchers.

During his visit to the campus, Mr. Ng met with UA&P President Dr. Winston Conrad B. Padojinog and some UA&P officials who apprised him of the various programs and projects of the University. Mr. Ng shared his experiences in the agribusiness industry to Mr. Senen Reyes, who currently heads the UA&P Center for Food and Agribusiness (CFA). For several years, the CFA has been successfully running the Agribusiness Executives’ Program (AEP), a 6-month Certificate Program designed to develop the managerial, analytical, and strategic thinking skills of executives and managers.

On top of further expanding NorthStar, Mr. Ng aspires to make a dent in the high-end restaurant industry with his newly opened restaurants in Katipunan, Quezon City: Fukui Omakase and William Watson Steak Room.

CAS Benchmarking visit with Sunway University, Malaysia

A delegation from the UA&P College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) conducted a benchmarking activity with the Sunway University (SU) School of Arts in Malaysia on July 7, 2023.

Sunway University, relatively young by global standards, is one of Malaysia’s leading private universities. During the visit, the two teams held a roundtable discussion to get to know each other’s academic institutions and learn about SU's best practices in the academic and administrative sides of operations including institutional workflows and procedures. Possible avenues of collaboration and partnership were also discussed.

The UA&P-CAS delegation sends its heartfelt gratitude to SU’s School of Arts Team for their warm welcome and generous sharing of notes of experiences.
