UA&P prof presents Nordic migrant research

UA&P Associate Professor Dr. Veronica E. Ramirez presented on January 16 the results of her study on the work and life of Filipino migrant workers in Nordic countries as well as the patterns of recruitment and employment in Finland, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.

The research, entitled “Migrant Worker Recruitment and Employment Practices in Nordic Countries: Implications to policy and international workforce market,” was presented in UA&P to guests from the embassies of Denmark, Finland, and Norway, as well as from the International Labor Organization, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Migrant Workers, Nordic Chamber of Commerce, Ziirto Finland, and Surewell Equities, Inc.

The research study has found the essential factors that can contribute to social transformation through migrant work, which can benefit both the sending and the receiving countries. Based on the interventions, the key stakeholders can propose policies that can regulate practices on migrant worker recruitment and employment.

The research was commissioned by Mr. Mika Escola, Tuocon Oy, and Time to Give Back Saatio Foundation in collaboration with Mr. Cesar Averia of EDI Staffbuilders International, Inc.

Dr. Ramirez was assisted in the project by Mr. Lamberto Francisco A. Ramirez, Training Director of the Academy of Multi-Party Democracy: Project PARTICIPATE.
