UA&P Associate Professor Dr. Veronica E. Ramirez recently released two new publications on the employment concerns of Filipino migrant workers and contributed to the global research of the World Health Organization on health, migration, and displacement.
The 200-page Breaking Free from Struggle in Silence: OFW Mental Health Patterns of Detection and Treatment delves into the patterns of detection and treatment of mental health problems among Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and derives from the findings the implications to psychosocial support services.
Work-Life Balance in Nordic Countries: The Filipino Experience sheds light on the lived experiences of Filipino workers in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden, and aims to delineate the essential components for effective migrant worker recruitment, identify the factors that aid or hinder this process, and explore the support mechanisms available to workers both during and after their employment. Moreover, the book looks into the workers’ evaluation of their employment conditions and their experiences, alongside investigating the push factors from their homeland, the pull factors towards the Nordic countries, and the prevalent reasons for job discontinuation among Filipino workers in these regions.
Dr. Ramirez also contributed to the WHO's "Global research agenda on health, migration and displacement: Strengthening research and translating research priorities into policy and practice." She participated in the Technical Consultation with Academics and in the Implementation Workshop.
