UA&P-IST visits Anihan Technical School, explores collaboration opportunities

 

The UA&P Department of Information Science and Technology (IST) visited Anihan Technical School in Calamba, Laguna, on August 14 to explore collaboration opportunities with this technical-vocational institute that caters to young women.

Among the items discussed were the rehabilitation of the school’s computer laboratory, the development of systems to digitize Anihan's student records, the possibility of setting up in UA&P retail arrangements for Anihan products, and the introduction of Information Technology courses into Anihan's program offerings.

IST is committed to expanding students' skill sets and providing more career opportunities in the tech industry. The visit was a solid step in building a connection between UA&P and Anihan, focusing on practical solutions and future growth.

Anihan also supports women in communities through an adjunct project, the Anihan Livelihood Center. This initiative allows women to produce artisan baked goods (photo above), with proceeds going towards raising scholarship funds, further empowering the community and providing valuable support for education.

 

2nd Fireside Chat highlights core of family business successions

 

In the recently concluded 2nd Fireside Chat on "Family Values and Successful Succession Planning," speakers Honorable Consul Eudaldo "Benjie" Atilano and Aristides "Jong" Merida emphasized that at the core of all properly executed succession plans is love and mutual respect among family members. 

In the get-together held on September 16, the speakers pointed out that many strategies can be adopted to ensure a seamless transition in family-run businesses, but they are only as effective as the amount of care that one invests in open, nurturing, and respectful communication among family members and other stakeholders. 

The Fireside Chat series is a project of UA&P BIGGKAS+, the Office of Alumni Affairs, and the School of Management.

UA&P participates in Taiwan Educational City Learning Program 

 

A delegation from UA&P participated in the Taiwan Educational City Learning Navigation Program organized by Taiwan-based civic society organization Edu-Connect Southeast Asia Association. 

Held from July 30 to August 3 with the theme “Innovative Solutions and Cultural Immersion: Exploring Industrial Excellence and Heritage in Kaohsiung,” the program focused on nation-building, industrial excellence, and smart city development using Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, as a living classroom. Participants engaged in lectures, discussions, and city tours led by local experts.

UA&P delegates included BS Industrial Engineering Program Director Dr. Varsolo Sunio, Humanities program officer Janice Mercurio, and MA Humanities students Christine Vinci Lara and Jude Elbert Banton. 

The program provided valuable insights into entrepreneurial development, fostering future collaborations between Taiwan and the Philippines.

Edu-Connect Southeast Asia Association is a multisectoral partnership of universities, businesses, and development organizations in Southern Taiwan.

Other Filipino delegates came from the University of the Philippines - National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP-NCPAG), Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), and USAID Philippines. The last two groups were part of the Taiwanihan Initiative, which aims to develop projects/collaborations between Southern Taiwan and Northern Luzon.

Arts Department hosts lecture concert on Filipino music genres

 

​​The Arts Department hosted a lecture concert entitled "An Exploration of Various Filipino Music Genres" last September 11, featuring two esteemed performers: Mr. Greg de Leon (Baritone) and Dr. Montet Acoymo (Tenor). Held at the Dizon Auditorium, the concert was a celebration of the rich and diverse musical heritage of the Philippines.

Dr. Acoymo introduced select musical pieces and songs featured in his book Art Songs for a New Millenium and offered background information on their cultural significance. The audience was then treated to a medley of Filipino folk songs from various regions. 

Mr. de Leon, on the other hand, rendered soulful renditions of "Bituing Marikit," "Kalesa," and "Gaano Ko Ikaw Kamahal" and explained the significance of each song to him as a performer. 

The concert concluded with a powerful and moving performance of "Mi Ultimo Adios" by Dr. Acoymo.

The lecture concert is part of the Arts Department’s ongoing initiative to promote arts, culture, and, most importantly, the country’s musical heritage.

SED 31st Foundation Anniversary

 

The School of Education and Human Development (SED) would like to thank everyone who joined them in the Thanksgiving Mass in celebration of the School's 31st Foundation Anniversary.
