Dr. Nicomedes B. Alviar, dean of the UA&P School of Social Sciences, Law, and Governance (SLG), is one of the recipients of the 9th Distinguished Thomasian Alumni Award. Conferred by the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Alumni Association, this prestigious award recognizes graduates who embody Thomasian values and have achieved exceptional accomplishments in their fields, both in the Philippines and abroad.
Dr. Alviar completed his high school education, AB Asian Studies, and MA in Political Science at UST before earning his PhD in Political Science from the University of the Philippines Diliman. His dedication to education is evident in his extensive experience as an educator and researcher. Beyond academia, he actively contributes to civic volunteerism, values education, good governance, and social work, particularly for the underprivileged, through his involvement in various non-government organizations.
Dr. Alviar’s commitment to service extends to his membership in esteemed organizations such as the Philippine Political Science Association, the Philippine Council for Foreign Relations, the Galing Pook Foundation, and the International Editorial Board of the Philippine Social Science Review. His multifaceted career reflects a lifelong passion for learning, teaching, and making a meaningful impact on society.

The School of Education and Human Development (SED) invites teachers, students, writers, parents, and advocates for youths to its Quarterly Faculty Lecture Series on January 22, 2025 (Wednesday) from 5:45 pm to 7:00 pm via Zoom.
Teacher, writer, and eight-time Palanca Awardee Dr. Joem Antonio will give a 40-minute lecture and demonstration of how children's stories can be custom-made for classroom purposes.
In this talk entitled "Lesson Through Experience: A Glimpse and Demonstration of Writing Children's Stories with a Lesson," participants will contribute to the creative process as Dr. Antonio explains the rationale behind the steps to writing a story, particularly stories with a particular lesson to teach.

Isa si G. Louise Vincent B. Amante ng Kagawaran ng Filipino ng College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) sa mga nagwagi noong Nobyembre 19 sa ikasiyam na araw ng paligsahan sa pagsulat ng tula na isinagawa ng San Anselmo Publications, Inc. at tinawag na Santelmo Pambansang Hámon sa Pagtula 2024.
Kalahok ang tula ni G. Amante na "Alamat ng Tatlong Bibe" sa ika-siyam na araw ng hámon na pinamagatang "Mary Grace Piattos" na tungkol sa dalawang mukha ng katotohanan at panlilinlang.
Dahil sa pagkapanalo, shortlisted ang naturang akda sa pinal na kompetisyon na ginanap noong Nobyembre 22 bilang bahagi ng pagdiriwang ng Pambansang Araw ng Pagtula 2024.
Bagaman at hindi kabilang sa mga pinal na nanalo, magiging bahagi ang tula ni G. Amante sa anthology ng patimpalak ngayong taon.
